“The only true beauty is radiant darkness. The darkness of the Dark Kingdom will shade the entire world. I cannot wait to see it.”
Cunning, cold, and collected, Kunzite was the last great paramount of the Dark Kingdom’s quaternary Shitennou; The Fourth Heavenly King. Holding strict dominion over the Middle Eastern division he is said to bear the carriage of a mystifying Arabian King, alluring and possessive. From his very awakening he bid allegiance only to Queen Beryl, the enigmatic force of Metalia of whom she served, and of course, to his lover who fawned only for him, Zoisite.
While his underlings, Zoisite, Nephrite, and Jadeite were ordered with the menial task of gathering energy to resurrect the Great Ruler Metalia, Kunzite’s interests laid in the phantom power of the Silver Crystal, which were scattered in seven pieces within seven inhabitants of Tokyo. His desire is nothing more than to gaze upon the beauty of darkness and the seductive denizens which bask and inhabit it. Queen Beryl’s goal promises him this, thus he takes his task as leader of her forces with terrible severity, but also with much patience and devious exploitation.
He exhibits this by allowing Nephrite the chance to find the Silver Crystal, despite the assignment being bestowed to Zoisite. Recognizing Nephrite’s unshakable determination and impatience he quells Zoisite’s distress that Nephrite would dare take his assignment, assuring him that should Nephrite succeed, they together would simply steal the Silver Crystal from Nephrite and present it to their Queen.
Later, having the most faith in his subordinate Zoisite, Kunzite then tasked him with retrieving the seven scattered pieces known as the Rainbow Crystals, after Nephrite had failed to detect the Silver Crystal itself and was subsequently killed.
“I am Kunzite of the Great Four of the Dark Kingdom. Sailor Moon and Sailor Soldiers, prepare yourselves!”
Another General fallen, along with Jadeite who had died much earlier in the series, Kunzite sensed Zoisite’s imminent failure after he lost three Rainbow Crystals to Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask and took it upon himself to aid his charge to spare him the fate of Nephrite. Though he seemed quite content to allow his men to bicker and fight viciously amongst themselves, he took great pains to shield Zoisite from Queen Beryl’s wrath. As cold and ruthless as he is, there is a part of him that covets the younger man, though he is far less emotion-driven and jealous as the other, acting as his rational divining rod and confidant.
Kunzite’s plan of victory was to disguise Zoisite as Sailor Moon and place ‘her’ in danger to lure out Tuxedo Mask. Of all the half-baked ideas his colleagues had hatched to bring Sailor Moon to her knees, it was Kunzite’s that nearly killed the four known Soldiers in one fell swoop and severely injured Tuxedo Mask. Unfortunate for the Dark Kingdom, they were unaware of the fifth Sailor Soldier which appeared at the last moment and freed the other Sailors from Kunzite’s trap. So close to triumph, Kunzite was more than willing to finish the job, but was called to retreat by Queen Beryl, as she had suddenly became aware of the true identity of Tuxedo Mask. Though Zoisite was over-eager to disobey her to take the glory for Kunzite, the discerning leader knew the Queen’s patience with them was at its breaking point and pulled back.
Now with the confidence that he and Zoisite were more than capable of defeating the Sailor Soldiers, he bided his time with Beryl’s next task, which was to capture Tuxedo Mask and bring him alive to her feet. His plan for the deceitful duo was to call out Tuxedo Mask for a final “fair and square” duel, whilst hanging Mamoru’s true identity over his head. Treacherous as they both were, the moment Mamoru laid down his ante of his remaining Rainbow Crystals, they took advantage of Mamoru’s honor with Kunzite appearing only to simply steal all seven away.
There was no dirty length he would not stoop to achieve his goals, as he sees it simply as a weakness in others who hold silly notions of honor and needless chivalry. Such was his nature, as with all who served the Dark Kingdom and abided by their corrupt ways.
As seamless as it appeared, it was Zoisite’s disobedience that would foil them, as in his attempt to kill Tuxedo Mask against orders, Sailor Moon’s tears of grief swept the Rainbow Crystal’s out of Kunzite’s hands, bestowing the reformed Silver Crystal to her, and allowing her to awaken as Princess Serenity and Tuxedo Mask as Prince Endymion. As furious as he should have been with his beau, he remained imperturbable, simply taking charge of Tuxedo Mask’s injury and teleporting the unconscious man to his Queen.
While Kunsite attempted to take the brunt of the failure to retrieve the Silver Crystal upon his shoulders, Queen Beryl had had enough of Zoisite’s insubordination. He plead to take full responsibility to spare him, but Zoisite was immediately struck with a powerful blast of dark energy rendering his death imminent. Begging her to revive Zoisite proved fruitless, and in his arms he cradled Zoicite, asking for his forgiveness. As Zoicite’s last wish, Kunzite benevolently surrounded them in an illusion of flora all around, allowing him to die surrounded by beauty.
Kunsite’s inward demeanor changed drastically, though he kept himself impenetrable before his queen. From then on he became obsessed with Sailor Moon’s street identity, vowing to expose her in her weakness and kill her. His goal was no longer that of simply his queen’s, but a personal crusade of vengeance. For once his personal side had been struck, a weakness he never knew he had, but channeled into a chilling fury that was unparalleled.
“Do you mean to step into Hell voluntarily, Princess? Fine then. I will take revenge for Zoisite!”
He sought to kill the Soldiers then and there and confronted them with a callous air. Yet his hubris and would be his undoing. He was no match alone for the power of the Silver Crystal in Sailor Moon’s hands, and though Endymion had been brainwashed onto the side of the Dark Kingdom for a short time, Kunsite’s pride to take revenge on his own lead to his downfall. He died when Sailor Moon forged the walls of the Dark Kingdom and vowed that he would see Zoisite on the other side.
“On my pride I refuse to shout, ‘Refresh!’”

Character Abilities: Kunsite’s powers are a terrifying lot. His main source of advantage is his ability to absorb the powers of anyone and anything around him and use that energy as fierce projectiles. He can create barrier domes of dark energy and use said dome to trap and shrink down on an opponent till they are crushed. He can cause black-outs in entire cities, and cause storms of dark energy to brew lightning into the air. He can conjure duel blades of violet energy and use them as projectiles, while also being incredible adept with a sword. Teleportation and flight are a staple of those of the Dark Kingdom as well.
Character Inventory: Simply his sword, an undying pink rose, and the photo of himself and Zoisite.
Samples: Pride precedes disaster, arrogance precedes a fall. For all his grand accomplishments, it was undo faith in his own abilities that would crush him. How cruel a world he had been brought into, and in cruelty he was taken out. And yet Kunsite still clung to his pride enough that he thought himself worthy of an afterlife where he would meet his so coveted, and whatever failures they left behind would be meaningless.
“Shangri-la…” A breathless utterance left him as his frigid eyes lifted to bask in the rich color and mystic orient architecture. Where once his heart had been beating like a wild thing trying to escape, now was left tranquil and sated. The fourth general knew without a shadow of doubt that his wish to see heaven had been answered, no matter how this place looked to an ordinary man.
There was no fight or back-biting argument as he was instructed to seemingly sign his soul away as a ‘guest’. Kunzite, though of great egotism, knew when and where to be solemn and dutiful. In his eyes, this was the mere formal procedure of the afterlife, as he made no assumptions to what ‘death’ was like, only that he would see Zoisite alive and tangible once more. Yet where… where was he? Should not his beauty who shamed even the rose be awaiting him at the walls of this Xanadu?
For once, a coldness that he only ever exhibited on others, began to grip him within. And to that he gripped sharp at one of the attendants and let his authoritative tone loose.
“Where is he? Where is Zoisite?” The answer came out with a vagueness that left him tortured for closure.
No, could it be? Had they been sent worlds apart? Of all the absurd and ambiguous explanations for his arrival here in Saeng Seong, the very thought that Zoisite was not there to join him was the most unbelievable. In that instance he delved within himself to teleport from this place, but found an emptiness all around, as if he could not grasp the existence outside the walls for him to escape to.
Trapped. Like those foolish little girls who had bested him at his own game. It was a feeling of shame he’d never experienced, and its very stab at his heart left him with the same cold fury he felt when his beau left his arms. No. He wouldn’t believe it. He refused with every fiber of his being to give in to that ill thought. Thrusting the attendant to the ground, he made for the innards of the city.
“Out of my way! Zoisite! …Zoisite! I’ll find you. I’ll find you and let you bask in a beauty unparalleled!”
